THE UNITED NATIONS

To participate in Model UN, you must first understand the United Nations.

The United Nations, is an international organization that was established in 1945, (shortly after the end of WW2) with the intentions of creating and maintaining world peace and security, and furthermore to promote human rights and protect democracy. Comprised of 193 countries and 2 member states, the UN's main goals are to solve international conflicts and prevent war; fight poverty and promote sustainable economic development, and protect human rights.

Formerly East Pakistan, Bangladesh came into being only in 1971, when the two parts of Pakistan split after a bitter war which drew in neighboring India. Bangladesh is now one of the world's most densely-populated countries, with its people crammed into a delta of rivers that empty into the Bay of Bengal. 

Bangladesh formally joined the United Nations as its 136th Member state on 17 September 1974, and has since then been one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping operations. 

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates, or states that since 1962, has grown from a quiet backwater to one of the Middle East's most important economic centers, due to their crude oil and natural gases exports. 

The UAE's rising international profile has led to it being recognized as a regional and a middle power and is one of the reason's why they joined the United Nations The UAE joined the Arab League on December 9th, 1971.
